Privacy policy.
How we handle the data you entrust to us. In plain language.
In short
We only ask for what we need to help you and to make this website work. What you do on the site, we only measure if you allow it, and your data is never sold. Below you read, topic by topic, how it works.
Who is responsible
Salamander (Ekselsebaan 2 bus 1, 3940 Hechtel-Eksel, België) decides why and how your data is used through this website and is responsible for it. You can reach us at hallo@salamander.be or on +32 11 19 18 25. Company number: BE 0636.839.444.
Which data we collect
What you fill in yourself on a form: your name, e-mail address, phone number and message, plus whatever else the form asks. You are not obliged to give any of it; without it we simply cannot answer your request.
If you give your consent for statistics, this adds how you use the site: which pages you view, where you click and how far you scroll, where your visit comes from and roughly which city or country you are in, linked to a random code of your device. We do not keep your IP address.
If you open a document or click a link in an e-mail from us, we record that to follow up on your request; with your consent for statistics, also whether you were on mobile, tablet or desktop. We do not measure whether you open an e-mail: our e-mails contain no invisible images.
What we use it for
To answer your question and follow it up.
With your consent, per category: statistics, to understand how the site is used and to improve it, also with recordings of visits in which what you type, e-mail addresses and phone numbers are masked; marketing, to show advertisements and measure what they deliver; and feedback, to report an error or remark with a screenshot. To show the site in your language, we have its texts translated. We use your data for nothing else and never sell it.
On what legal basis
What you fill in on a form, we use to handle your request or, at your request, to take steps towards a contract. We only use statistics, marketing and feedback with your consent, which you give per category; without consent we measure nothing and keep nothing on your device for that. That the site works and stays secure rests on our legitimate interest.
How long we keep it
What you gave in a form, we keep as long as your request is open, unless you ask us otherwise.
We keep statistics for 13 months at most, and your device’s code stays valid for 13 months without being renewed. Recordings of visits: 90 days at most. A report of an error: until it is handled, 12 months at most. If you withdraw your consent, we stop and erase what depended on it. What you opened or clicked in an e-mail from us, we keep as long as we keep your request. Your device remembers your cookie choice for 6 months after a refusal and 12 months after a consent.
Who we share it with
Only with partners who help us and whom we bind by contract to the same rules: hosting partners, our software for contacts and forms, our e-mail provider, analytics services, services that record visits, advertising services, a service for reporting errors, and translation and AI services. They use your data only for us, and we never sell it.

Questions to our AI
Habbi: Habbi, a service of Salamander, European Union. AI processor: Anthropic PBC, via Vercel Inc. (AI Gateway). Data: what you ask, the answer, the pages and results we show you. Email addresses and phone numbers are masked before they are stored. We do not use them to train an AI model. Purpose: answering your question and improving the service. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in giving you good search help. Retention: 24 months; after that only anonymous figures (such as cost and duration) remain.
Outside the European Union
Some of our partners also work outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. Your data only goes there with appropriate safeguards: a decision of the European Commission that the country offers adequate protection, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or the Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Cookies and your choice
In our cookie policy you read which services this site uses per category. You choose in the cookie banner and change or withdraw your choice at any time through Cookie preferences at the bottom of every page; what happened before you withdrew remains lawful. If a service is added that needs consent, we ask again those who allowed something before; whoever refused keeps that choice.
Your rights
You have a range of rights over your data: you can view it, have it corrected or erased, restrict its processing, object to it and take it with you in a common format. If you gave consent, you withdraw it whenever you like.
E-mail hallo@salamander.be to exercise a right. We reply within a month and sometimes ask you to prove who you are first, to protect your data.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels, gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).
